Conferences

The energy transition is happening - a hundred times, decentralized, locally. The BMBF-funded research project EE-regions has studied how communities and regions can successfully and in a sustainable way switch to renewable energy. At the conference the scientists have presented their results as well as opportunities for a socially just and ecologically sound Renewable Energy Self-Sufficiency. Best practice examples have illustrated how the energy transition is approached. Participants of the conference were practitioners, scientists and decision makers, dealing with local self-supply from renewable energy sources.

”We have to convince our citizens that renewable energy is crucial for our future. Any doubts that exist have to be taken seriously and conflicts that may arise must be resolved through mutual agreements.” Theresia Bauer Minister for Scientific Affairs of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg opened the two-day event on 15 September 2011 in Freiburg by emphasizing the importance of sustainability in transforming energy systems, explaining that the introduction of renewable energies is not just a question of financing and developing new technology, but also one that involves ensuring acceptance among the general public. More than 70 experts took up the invitation of the universities of Freiburg and Hohenheim as well as the IÖW.
